Matthew Samford, M.A., L.P.C. is a Child and Adolescent Therapist who has had extensive experience in counseling students in both the school and private settings. For the past ten years, he has worked in the Department of Psychological & Counseling Services for the Deer Park Independent School District. Simultaneously, he worked in the evening hours from January of 1991 to March of 1999 with UBA-Center for Counseling.
In March of 1999, Matthew formed Taylor Educational & Counseling Services which provides counseling as well as tutoring and educational consultation to students and their families. His office is located in Northwest Harris County on Champion Forest Drive and has serviced the school districts of Spring, Klein, Aldine, Cy-Fair, Tomball and Houston.
Throughout his professional career, Matthew has found interest in counseling children using game activities. Early in his years of providing therapeutic sessions to children, he had begun to grow weary of the counseling games that were available through some of the therapeutic catalogs. As a result, he made up his own techniques for getting children to open up and deal with sensitive issues in a non-threatening manner.
The collection that was developed, entitled The Counselor's "T.A.G." Collection (Therapeutic Activities and Games), including games which deal directly with the issues of: self-control, self-esteem, divorce, grief, problem-solving/conflict resolution, etc. Children have consistently responded favorably to the activities in individual, group and classroom settings. The games are designed to assist therapists and other counseling professionals in developing successful therapeutic relationships with their child clients.
Matthew lives in The Woodlands, Texas with his wife, Linda, and their dog, Dudley. He enjoys taking long dog-walks and eating Dairy Queen Blizzards. He and his wife are active in their church and enjoy spending time with their families.
